What is your heritage?
Mixed Race. Black Bermudian and White English.
Where did you grow up?
Part Bermuda, part London
How did you start career?
Was a model for the agency and when I hit (shhh 30!) I decided it would be a good time for some stability.
What would you say has been the biggest challenge in your career?
Adapting! As a model you have a pretty privileged life! Work is sporadic, but paid well and you have plenty of free time to see friends, family, holiday! You take it for granted. When you get in to a demanding full time work role, all of that changes and for me, it was a learning curve! Bearing in mind, modelling was my only job. I started at 15.
What is an average day in the office like for you?Responding to emails! Whether from foreign agents proposing their models, or me waiting for replies having sent our models abroad for possible placement. Often I have to meet models who are here in person, seeking London representation too.
What do you love most about your job?
I love finding that amazing new face. As a baby (around 14/15 sometimes), going from scouting them, through the developing stage, advising and guiding. It’s a tough industry, so when someone makes it, it’s really amazing to be on that journey with them.
What do you dislike the most about your job?
Having to say no. We get so many applicants and people who just dream of modelling. When the look/chemistry isn’t right, it is awful saying no or letting someone go. The. Worst. Never gets easier.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
SAVE YOUR MONEY! But I have also had an awesome time, so not sure I’d have ever taken heed of such advice.
Working in the fashion/creative industry and being a woman there is sometimes the pressure to always look good, what is your view on this?
I’m always a mess! I do think that there is an underlying image to be upheld, but I think if you are comfortable in your style, you can pull anything off and still be you, be comfortable.
What does your hair represent to you?
I LOVE my hair but growing up I always hated how curly and wild it was, but now – I love that it is a feature. I just wish I allowed more time to be interesting with it in the mornings instead of my fail safe top-knot!
Do you have a hair care routine?
I like a root lifting spray, as it can get a little flat (I rarely use heat on my hair, so air drying is my usual routine!). The one I am using is by KMS California Root and Body Lift. Then, for the curl/frizz taming… Sounds random, but I came across this product after seeing it on one of those ‘best ways to control curls’ pages. My friend brought it over from NY for me, but I’m sure you can get it here too. It’s called Aquaphor Healing Ointment. It’s a dry skin ointment! But as skin and hair are two in the same, it works amazingly for me. I never use too much (always apply in wet hair!) and really only an amount the size of a 10p piece.
What are your favourite hair products and why?
My current shampoo and conditioner are by Viviscal. I get them form Holland and Barrett, love them! If I ever need a hairspray for an up-do, fail safe Elnett.
Have you had any major hair disasters?
YES!! When I was about 8 I tried to curl a brush in my hair (one of those round bristle ones) and it got stuck! Right at the scalp. I had to cut my hair to get it out and was left with a little tufty/spiky bit of short hair for AGES!!
When do you feel most beautiful?
Gosh, what a question! Probably never! I guess when I make a bit of an effort and put some makeup on and head out for dins with my beau.
Tell us about your beauty routine?
I always clean my skin (morning and night) with Bioderma. I use an eye cream everyday, morning and night. I swear by No.7. I’ve used their products for such a long time now. I also use a La Roche Posay corrector before my anti-wrinkle face cream by No.7.
What skincare products could you not live without?
Honestly, my face creams, I use them twice a day, without fail.
What are your favourite make-up products?
MAC have the best products for me, I use everything from their concealers, to their mascaras. All my lipsticks are by MAC and I always try and find a good match for the lip-liner too, they have fantastic pigment and a huge range I really like the Flat Out Fabulous lipstick which I use with the Magenta Lip Liner. I also love Mehr lipstick and the liner Soar together. I always wear matte, not a fan of sheen/gloss.
When are you most happy?
I like to think I’m always happy. I lead a very blessed life. But, if I had to pick a singular moment; it is in my flat – with my boy and my fatty catty snuggled in bed. I love those moments.
What is your favourite book of all time?
Good question. I LOVED Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, but if I had to pick an ultimate fav. then it’s probably The Twits by Roald Dahl or The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton J
Do you work out?
Yes, I go to classes at Another Space. HITT and Spin are both amazing.
What are you listening to at the moment?
I’m back into my Hotel Costes albums! Currently obsessed with Volume 6.
Who do you admire and why?
I really admire my Fiancé. Maybe a little eggy, but true all the same! He has worked so hard building his company from nothing and he has become such a great man. I feel privileged to have been on his journey.
You’re hosting a dinner party, who is on the guest list and why?
OMG Beyoncé is on there! I saw a mug once which said ‘You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyoncé’. She is a powerhouse and I love her! I would also have my mum and dad there as I don’t see them as much as I’d like to. Maya Angelou, Tom Hanks (he just seems awesome) and Ricky Gervais because his humour is wicked and wonderful. Think we could have a great chat about cats…
Do you have a nick name?
Rainbow (as in the 80’s cartoon. My surname is Bright) and my mum and sister call me Ribena.
What is your ideal way to spend the weekend?
I love being in hotels! Ideal weekend is at Soho Farmhouse (or any kind of cosy spa hotel really) having cosy sleeps/facials/swims and good food with my boy J.
